  • Surviving ammonite - shelled cephalopod more closely related to squids and octopi than modern shelled nautilus

  • Shell was approximately 3.5 feet long at its widest point, shorter tentacles were 2 feet long on average and longer tentacles were 5 feet long

  • Carnivorous, most likely feeds on crustaceans and smaller fish

  • Relatively docile, likely not dangerous unless threatened or provoked

  • Small hole beneath tentacles indicates likely ability to move via water propulsion (like squids)

  • No other known freshwater cephalopods
