Episode 101 - The Beginning

Let me start by thanking anyone who has listened to this episode already! Episode 101 starts the journey of our characters, Mia and Lucas, and it also starts our journey into podcasting. You can look forward to Episode 102 on Friday, 10/13.

Jesstin, Dan, Danielle, and myself have been working to develop, write, record, and edit this podcast for about a year now. We threw a bunch of ideas out and decided to pursue this one first. Filmmaking was our norm, so learning how to approach an audio-only show took some thought.

For anyone interested in our process, it begins with outlines. Jesstin is the writer but we usually sit as a group to develop the ideas and decide what points we want to hit and when - then Jesstin makes the story come to life. We meet a couple times a month to record Jesstin and Danielle (in our hi-tech studio closet), with extra days for guests as needed. Some nights it's smooth sailing and other nights Providence seems to be the path for the loudest of all vehicles, making recording stop and go.

After the recording is done, I take the audio, do some general equalization and leveling, then I hand it off to Dan to complete a rough vocal cut. He sends that back to me, and then I add things like ambience, sound effects, music, and monsters. We source sound effects from the web (see attributions below) and make a lot of our own. Jessy and I review, add finishing touches, then get it release ready!
